Clare Rainey

I developed my love of languages and travel as a young child when my family moved to Spain and I learnt to speak Spanish. On my return to Ireland, I continued studying Spanish and later began studying Portuguese as part of my undergraduate degree in Hispanic Studies at the University of Glasgow.

Following a couple of extended periods living and working in Lisbon and in Asturias, Spain I spent some years working in a Spanish accountancy office based in Glasgow before graduating as a teacher and specialising in Early Literacy. I later earned an MA with Distinction in Translation Studies at the University of Portsmouth, focusing my final research project on issues of audience in the translation of a specific Spanish children's book.

My professional background as a linguist is very much informed by my previous experience in education, specifically in the fields of pedagogy, literacy and sustainability.

I am passionate about the power of communication and take my responsibility as a translator very seriously. Open and frank dialogue with my clients is key to ensuing the translations I provide are meet my clients' needs. I combine my translation expertise with academic research skills and my professional experience in the field to provide high-quality translations that are accurate, trust-worthy and timely.

Although my translation service is based in Scotland I work with clients and agencies all over the world.
